Winter Waters Dinner: Local Ocean Seafoods
February 1st, 2025 — Newport, OR
Newport’s Local Ocean Seafoods is hosting a special Winter Waters dinner for the second year in a row, and we’re SO excited to see what Chef Enrique Sanchez-Rodriguez comes up with this year. This will be a 5-course pre-fixe dinner centered around seaweed and local, sustainable seafood. Beverage pairing available at an additional cost, day of the event.
Last year, Local Ocean hosted guest chef Luis Cabanas, who knocked it out of the park with Chef Enrique. The 5-course tasting menu was met with thunderous applause from the packed dining room. Read about last year's event HERE.
This year, we are proud to announce that Local Ocean will be partnering with the students of Siletz Valley School, who have been participating in Oregon's first ever High School Seafood Butchery Program. You may have heard about the program, as it was recently featured by many media outlets including Oregon Public Broadcasting. This innovative program has been getting a lot of attention as it seeks to develop Oregon's future workforce. Watch a video about the program HERE.
There's a big movement to keep more Oregon seafood local, as a recent study found that up to 90% of the seafood served on the Oregon coast does not come from Oregon.
Programs like the High School Seafood Butchery will prepare Oregon for a future where more seafood is local, and we're so excited to support their efforts! The program is a partnership between the Oregon Coast Visitors Association, Economic Development Alliance of Lincoln County, and Oregon Seafare.
A portion of the proceeds from this dinner will be donated to Newport’s Central Coast Food Web.
