Port of Bandon Tour: Part B of South Coast Tour
Sunday, March 2nd — Bandon
Our morning tour of the Port of Port Orford and lunch at Port Orford Sustainable Seafood now is sold out, but we figured we could still offer the second half of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Tour! Join us for a tour of the Port of Bandon.
Take a dive into the Port of Bandon’s operations, to see the urchin ranching facilities, Oregon Seaweed’s dulse seaweed farm, and Oregon Kelp Alliance’s newly developed bull kelp hatchery.
The Port of Bandon has a diverse array of aquaculture projects going on at the moment. Alanna will begin with a tour and overview of the seaweed industry across the country as well as specifically in Oregon. Tom Calvanese, director of the Oregon Kelp Alliance (ORKA), will be present to give an overview of 2024 kelp forest surveys along the Oregon Coast. ORKA works aligns with the urchins ranching efforts that are also underway at the Port! He’ll also be showing off their very new baby bull kelp hatchery.
