RECAP: Ocean Trivia Night at Pelican Pub

Thursday, February 6th, 2025 — Cannon Beach, OR.

We really filled the house for this one at the Pelican Brewing pub in Cannon Beach, Oregon. With over 50 attendees, it was a lively evening full of fun and engaging education. If you’ve ever been to one of our trivia nights, you know they are packed with fascinating content about fisheries and marine biology.

As guests arrived, they grabbed drinks and ordered from Pelican’s special Winter Waters seaweed menu. Five percent of all specials sold that evening were donated to the Oregon Kelp Alliance in support of their vital work.

The seaweed-themed menu featured a delicious lineup:

Furikake Fries – Beer-battered fries tossed with Jacobsen Furikake, served with oyster aioli.
Furikake Popcorn with Dulse Butter – A crowd-pleasing snack of house-popped popcorn, tossed with Jacobsen Furikake and rich dulse seaweed butter.
Oyster Shooters with Seaweed – Fresh local oysters served with a shallot vinaigrette and topped with local dulse seaweed.
Steamer Clams with Dulse Seaweed – One pound of local Manila clams in a Kiwanda Ale broth with shallots, fresh herbs, and dulse seaweed. Served with toasted garlic crostini.

Sara Hamilton of the Oregon Kelp Alliance joined us to speak about the current trends in Oregon’s kelp forests, based on ORKA’s extensive data and analysis from the past several years. She also shared updates on the exciting projects underway to help restore and support these vital ecosystems.

The group was curious, engaged, and enthusiastic, asking thoughtful questions and eager to learn more. We absolutely love hosting these trivia nights and hope you’ll join us for another one soon.

Big thank you the the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce + Experience Cannon Beach for sponsoring Winter Waters in Cannon Beach!
